Staffing for Safe and Effective Care. A Health and Safety Representative’s Resource
This updated resource is to assist and support health and safety representatives in recognising health and safety problems linked to unsafe staffing levels, from poor moving and handling practice to missed breaks and long working hours. It recognises the role that learning representatives and stewards can take and how we can work together as a team. It also recognises the supporting role of RCN staff when our health and safety representatives are faced with challenging issues or organisations that don’t act on their findings.

Representing RCN members at the European Federation of Public Service Unions' 11th Congress
The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) represents 8 million public service workers across Europe and has significant influence over the policies and decisions of employers, governments and institutions. The RCN, as a major membership stakeholder, sits on the executive and the EPSU Congress is held every five years. This year the event was held over three days in Bucharest, Romania, and I attended representing the Professional Nursing Committee as Vice Chair alongside three delegates: Denise Kelly, Dennis Greer and Jackie Davies representing the RCN Trade Union Committee, and Brian Morton, RCN Associate Director for Employment Relations.
