Chief Executive Colin Martin wrote to staff on 13 September to let them know the trust would no longer be pursuing the plan.Barry Hutchinson, RCN Officer at The Royal College of Nursing (pictured), said: “This is a great victory for common sense. It shows just what can be achieved for staff when trade unions work together and make a stand on behalf of their members.”
“NHS staff work hard under difficult conditions to provide patients with excellent care. Transferring them to a private company, with potentially reduced terms and conditions, effectively introduces a two-tier workforce, which is not the way to keep up staff morale.”
TEWV Estates and Facilities Management Ltd. was set up to employ staff formerly employed by Carillion, who transferred on 18 June 2018. Trust board members considered a draft business case for expanding the scope of the company but following objections from staff side union representatives and a media outcry they decided that the costs of the business case would outweigh the potential benefits.
