Carol will take on the role immediately, having been elected by her fellow RCN Council members. As Honorary Treasurer, in one of the most senior elected roles, she’ll also chair the RCN Finance and Investment Committee and present the annual accounts at the Annual General Meeting.

Carol was elected to represent the London region on RCN Council in September 2021 and throughout her career has worked in general practice, A&E, and mental health.

With an extensive track record of speaking up for nurses and patients, and challenging racism, Carol brings both her nursing expertise and experience of activism to the role.

Carol said: “I have always been passionate about representing members, and I am looking forward to occupying this important, constructive position on RCN Council and playing a stronger role in the organisation’s finances.”

RCN Council Chair Carol Popplestone added: “I would like to congratulate Carol on her election. Together we will work to make a strong sustainable organisation which is fit for the future during this crucial time in the RCN’s history.

“Carol brings so much experience to the table. Her impressive activism and history of speaking truth to power are vital attributes she will bring to the position.”
