RCN celebrates Nurses’ Day 2023

12 May 2023

We’re highlighting the remarkable difference the nursing profession makes to people’s lives every single day across the UK.

Happy Nurses' Day

Today is Nurses’ Day, an annual celebration of the nursing profession held on 12 May, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. This year, we want to thank you for the remarkable difference you make to the people you care for and their loved ones.

This is an opportunity for you and your colleagues to come together to reflect on and celebrate the incredible impact you have all year round, every single day, even in the most challenging of circumstances.

Watch our video to see just some of the stories we’re sharing about the incredible difference you make.

This Nurses’ Day is also an opportunity to reflect on all that you’ve achieved in the last 12 months. Our members have led the RCN through historic strike action and we want to congratulate you on the strength and determination you have shown – and continue to demonstrate.

RCN General Secretary & Chief Executive Pat Cullen said: “Nursing in 2023 is no mean feat. The ongoing pressures you face don’t go unrecognised and we want to thank you for your unwavering resilience, your passion and wholehearted commitment to those you care for.

“Whatever the setting, wherever the location, whomever the patient, the one thing all nursing staff have in common is their dedication to make a difference in people’s lives. Not just to their patients, but to their patients’ families and loved ones too.”

We hope you will join us today to celebrate #NursesDay by sharing stories on social media that demonstrate how you and your colleagues have changed lives. Also, here are some resources to help you mark the day, including posters you can print for the workplace, downloadable graphics to use on social media, and a Teams background.
