The process to recruit a permanent RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive has begun. Applications are open now and close on 2 June.
Recruitment will be rigorous, overseen by a group of elected members representing the RCN’s governing Council and Remuneration Committee.
Paul Vaughan, Chair of RCN Council, said: “This pivotal role in health care demands a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to the nursing profession, exceptional strategic acumen, and a profound dedication to upholding the values and principles that underpin our organisation and the nursing profession.
“The successful candidate will be entrusted to steer the RCN through an ever-evolving health care landscape, ensuring that nursing staff are empowered, supported and equipped with the resources they need to deliver outstanding care.”
The RCN’s current General Secretary and Chief Executive Pat Cullen has been in the role for three years on a fixed term arrangement, with her current contract ending on 31 December 2024. As part of a broad programme of work to bring stability to the organisation, the role will now be filled permanently.
