RCN Awards: who will you nominate?

2 Nov 2023

Every year the RCN recognises members who’ve made a difference to other members’ lives and the wider nursing profession. Now’s the time to tell us who should receive an RCN Award.

Nominations are now open for the RCN Awards, offering members a chance to acknowledge colleagues and other nursing staff who’ve made a major contribution in their voluntary RCN roles. They give up their time for free to support members and make a real difference to the working lives of nursing staff.

The awards recognise the hard work and achievements of members in a number of categories. The RCN Award of Merit is the highest honour given for voluntary service to the RCN.

The Representative of the Year Awards include Learning Representative of the Year, Health and Safety Representative of the Year, and Steward of the Year. The RCN Student Ambassador of the Year Award is open to student ambassadors who have made a difference at their university and shown outstanding commitment to the RCN and its student members.

The RCN Forum Achievement Awards celebrate members’ exceptional contributions to the RCN’s professional forums.

In addition to celebrating those who support the RCN voluntarily, we are also asking for Fellowship and Honorary Fellowship nominations. These are awarded to innovative individuals who have made an exceptional commitment to advancing the science and practice of nursing, and to the improvement of health and patient care. Becoming an RCN Fellow means joining a distinguished community of highly respected professionals. The RCN calls on all its Fellows to engage in our work and help strengthen the voice and influence of nursing.

Cash prizes, sponsored by LV, are awarded to winners in the Representative, Student Ambassador and Forum Achievement categories. The prize for the award winners is £500, while commendees receive £250.

The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 16 January 2024, with winners announced on Sunday 2 June at RCN Congress in Wales.

RCN President Sheila Sobrany, who chairs the awards committee, said the RCN Awards offer an opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence, expertise and dedication in nursing: “Now’s the chance for members to nominate those who are deserving of these incredibly special awards and highlight the difference those individuals make to the profession.

“All nursing staff are exceptional in so many ways, but the RCN Awards allow us to shine a light on and say thank you to those who have gone above and beyond, and truly represent the best of the RCN and nursing.”

Please note, RCN staff cannot be nominated in the awards – this includes RCN officers.
