Do you work with someone who is committed to ensuring that nurses from all ethnicities are treated with dignity and respect by their colleagues, employer, those they care for and the public? Have they made an outstanding contribution to health and care in the South East over the past year?

Then please take a moment to nominate them for this year's 'Making a Difference' Awards, a core part of RCN South East's celebrations, and an opportunity to recognise and reward nursing staff working within and outside the NHS in the South East.

The theme for our 2024 celebrations is ‘Anti-Racism – A Cultural Exchange’, with a particular focus on international recruitment - understanding cultural differences and backgrounds to aid integration and communication.

The individual you nominate can be from the black, Asian or minority ethnic nursing community, or someone who has proven themselves to be an ally to this group of nurses.

We ask you to take a moment to reflect on the work of your colleagues and consider whether their achievements are worthy of a nomination.

Who should I nominate?

Eligibility criteria - you can nominate someone who:

  • is from the black, Asian or minority ethnic nursing community, or someone who has proven themselves to be an ally to this community
  • works in the South East
  • works in a nursing role across bands 2 upwards, or role equivalent
  • is a member of the RCN

You may like to nominate a colleague who

  • is actively working to change the culture of the environment in which they work, through action and education
  • stands up against racial injustices and is known to actively call out inequalities and discrimination
  • works hard for integration and understanding amongst fellow colleagues
  • has seen cultural exchange of ideas and ways of working as an enhancement to practice
  • used cultural differences successfully in helping international nurses to integrate and give the best of themselves without being made to feel inferior to their counterparts
  • sees the concerns in the workplace and acts with dignity and assurance to put things right
  • leads by example not just words
  • is key to the future of nursing (locally and/or nationally)
