Lynn Woolsey
UK Chief Nursing Officer, Royal College of Nursing
Session title: An Update from the Royal College of Nursing
Lynn Woolsey is the UK Chief Nursing Officer at the Royal College of Nursing. She provides strategic leadership to the Royal College of Nursing, its members and to the wider profession across all 4 countries of the UK. Lynn represents the RCN 450,000 plus members voices, working closely with regulators, professional bodies, UK senior stakeholder groups and Governments.
Lynn has held a variety of clinical nursing posts since initial registration across acute medicine and specialist surgery as well as managerial and leadership roles. These have included Deputy Chief Nursing Officer within the Department of Health Northern Ireland, Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery for Workforce and Education with responsibility for the workforce across acute and primary care, as well as all fields of practice including adult, children's, mental health and learning disability services and Assistant Director & Transformational Lead for an acute mental health and learning disabilities hospital. In addition to professional qualifications, Lynn has achieved a postgraduate qualification in Education, Strategic Workforce Planning and Coaching as well as an MSSc.
Paula McLaren
Senior Nursing Adviser for Advanced Practice, Nursing and Midwifery Council
Session title: NMC (Regulation)
Paula joined the NMC in February 2021 as Head of Education and Quality Assurance and is now Senior Adviser for Advanced Practice leading the NMCs review of advanced practice.
Paula is a registered general nurse, having trained in Australia and moved to the UK in 1995. Paula remains clinically active as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in general practice.
Paula has worked in a variety of roles within acute, primary and community services, higher education and transformation, involved in the development of GP Federations and Training Hubs. Paula was involved in setting up volunteer ‘health champions’ in GP practices and developing research practices to improve patient outcomes.
More recently Paula’s roles have focussed on the quality of learning environments and now the NMC review of advanced practice, moving into phase 2 to develop and finalise approaches to the additional regulation of advanced nursing and midwifery practice.
Paula’s wider interests include population health and supporting equitable access to high quality services, as well as supporting high quality learning opportunities and supporting future workforce development across health and social care.
Wendy Preston

Session title: RCN Professional Framework and Levels of Nursing
Head of Nursing (Workforce) at the RCN: Since qualifying as RGN in 1992 Wendy has continued studies, achieving MSc in Respiratory Care with post graduate certificates in prescribing and higher education. Continues to practice clinically as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in out of hour’s primary care and Honorary Respiratory Consultant Nurse and commencing a PhD at Kings College London. Current role at the Royal College of Nursing is Head of Nursing (Workforce) and has led the development of the Nursing Workforce Standards, revised Definition of Nursing and Levels of Nursing. Wendy also chairs the European Federation of Nursing Associations Advanced Practice Working Group.
Dr Siobhán O'Connor
Senior Lecturer, King's College London
Session title: Artificial Intelligence – the benefits for nursing practice
Dr Siobhán O'Connor is a Senior Lecturer in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College London and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Western University, Canada. She has a multidisciplinary background with bachelor degrees in nursing and information systems, completing her PhD in health informatics, and has nearly 20 years combined experience in industry, clinical practice, and higher education. Dr O'Connor's research focus on co-designing, testing, and implementing technology in healthcare, with a particular interest in mobile health and other digital tools that can support patient self management.

Session title: From self doubt to self belief: A journey beyond imposter syndrome
Caroline
Caroline was an RGN for 42 years and has worked in Primary Care for over 30 years, including working as Lead Nurse followed by 10 years as Managing Partner developing an innovative practice. Caroline is passionate about improving healthcare for our populations. She supports holistic patient care and recognises that valuing and supporting colleagues, leadership, and population health provision all play a key part in achieving these aims.
Caroline is the Wellbeing lead the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) and is also an NAPC Council Member.
Currently holding the position of joint chair of the ‘One Voice’ group, representing a coalition of unions and professional bodies including NAPC, RCGP, RCN and the Kings Fund amongst others. Their work is the acknowledgment that whilst patient needs are at the centre of the plans to recover services, this cannot be at the expense of health staff wellbeing.
Wellbeing and mental health have been a golden thread throughout her career. She worked as a specialist primary care nurse and psychodynamic counsellor developing a successful stress management strategy and training programme that reduced GP attendance and prescribing. She has run wellbeing courses nationally for many years including the NAPC Wellbeing course that supported colleagues across the NHS since the start of the Pandemic.
Caroline is a volunteer with SHOUT 85258, the UK's first free, confidential, 24/7 text support service. It's a place to go if you're struggling to cope and need mental health support and offers special support to all NHS colleagues (use the word FRONTLINE when texting in)
Cheryl
Cheryl has a professional background as a Paediatric Nurse and Health Visitor. Cheryl has 30 plus years’ experience in bringing about change & transformation across public, private and non-profit sectors.
Cheryl leads clients carefully and sympathetically through change, using her vast experience and flair for innovation alongside her excellent people skills to achieve lasting results. Cheryl has the ability of being able to provide objective challenge, make time to listen and yet successfully support those who initially struggle to see the bigger picture.
Cheryl supports integrated neighbourhood team development and the CARE Programme for the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC).
Cheryl’s interests are in change, leadership, quality improvement and people development. Cheryl is an MBTI and NLP Practitioner and an accredited coach and team coach.

Neal qualified as a nurse from the University of the West of England in 2002 and currently works as an
Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the Emergency Department at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
Mrs. Coral Rees
Senior Advanced Nurse Practioner, Paediatric Emergency Department, Cardiff
Session title: Transition from trainee to ANP
Coral started as a trainee ANP in 2004. She completed a BSc in Clinical Practice initially before undertaking an MSc in Advanced Practice whilst pushing the boundaries of advanced clinical practice and developing the role further than ever originally anticipated within General Paediatrics in Cardiff. She has experience of leading teams of ANPs and is bringing her newly qualified colleague Caroline Crossland and trainee Kirsty Miles to discuss the transition from trainee to qualified ANP in this breakout session.
Mr. Callum Metcalfe O'Shea
UK Professional Lead for Long Term Conditions and Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the Royal College of Nursing
Session title: Clinical update: Oral and injectable therapies for type 2 Diabetes management
Callum has been working in primary care specialising in diabetes as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner for the last 8 years, supporting the creation of a health professionals forum within his local area to improve diabetes education and training for nurses and other professionals. This work was then recognised by NHS England, in which an annual conference is held to support diabetes training and updates in the East of England. Callum still works clinically managing patients with diabetes, whilst supporting his local ICB as a diabetes clinical leader and speciality advisor for elective care and
recovery. Callum also is a member of the Primary Care Diabetes Society UK, helping to support diabetes best practice nationally.
Tammy Grainger
Community Learning Disability Nurse, Clinical Lead and Trainee Mental Health ACP, Dorset Healthcare University Trust
Session title: Assessing patients who have complex trauma and a learning disability for ACPs
Tammy has been a qualified Learning Disability Nurse for nearly thirty years, working in a range of different settings including inpatient CAMHS and acute mental health inpatients, Moving, from inpatient to the community she managed a range of services for people that had a LD with long term mental health issues and forensic backgrounds. She is a qualified behaviour specialist, who has a special interest in complex PTSD and helps to manage these people through her role with the LD IST. She is a third year mental health ACP trainee at Plymouth University.
Mrs Elizabeth Bennet Hayes
Session title: Red Flags in Pregnancy
I qualified as a RN in 1993, specialising in intensive care. I have been a Midwife since 2014 and have practised as an ACP since 2020. I developed and run EMCERT (enhanced maternal care escalation and response team) within our maternity unit; our team manages those birthing people who become acutely unwell or have existing comorbidities which need enhanced care during the antenatal / intrapartum / postnatal period. I also work with NHSE one day per week as a Training Programme Director in Midwifery for the Midlands region.
Dr. Ada Hui

Session title: Debunking myths about research: an opportunity to ask any question you want!
Dr Ada Hui is the UK Professional Lead for Research at the Royal College of Nursing. Ada leads on national research strategy and operationalisation. Ada’s research focuses on underserved populations, injustice and emotional labour to address health and social inequalities. She supervises, mentors and coaches early career researchers, practitioners and leaders across health and social care disciplines. Ada is passionate about making research accessible to all and has extensive experience as a researcher and educator having held previous leadership positions in Higher Education Institutions, including the design, development and convenorship of postgraduate research taught Masters programmes as part of national Doctoral Training Centres (e.g. Masters in Research Methods and Masters in Quality and Patient Safety) and supporting PhD students and supervisors as Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research.
Heather Randle

Session title: Legal update – accountability, delegation and non medical prescribing
A registered nurse, ANP and clinical lead with over 30 years’ experience working across the NHS, primary care, the independent sector, and academia. Previous roles include General Practice Nurse; Professional Development Lead at Mental Health, Learning disability and community NHS Trust. Senior Lecturer in a local HEI; Primary Care Lead Nurse; Clinical lead/ ANP and Quality Lead Nurse. She has a keen interest in primary care, education, leadership, medicines management and non-medical prescribing and is passionate about general practice nursing, advanced practice, physical and mental health, preceptorship, and portfolio careers. Her goal- Development of portfolio careers and Fair pay terms and conditions for all nurses.
Heather also has experience as a Quality Lead Nurse and ANP in the Midlands, working with general practice and urgent care centres, all with a variety of population needs. She provides support to ANPs, GPNs, HCAs, AHP’s and GPs within primary and urgent care providing clinical leadership, governance, and clinical supervision.
Although Heather has held various local, regional, and national roles she has always maintained a foot in practice working initially as one of the first practice nurses and now as a national leader and National Quality Lead Nurse.
Heather has seen primary care transform its ways of working during one of the most challenging times in healthcare, the Covid-19 pandemic. She is passionate about safe and effective care, improving terms and conditions for nurses in primary care and the role of primary care in the wider workforce.
In her current RCN role Heather supports the continuing development of new ways of working in primary care and is keen to work with the Advanced practice, leadership and RCN forums on projects, consultations and education events that support advances in practice and ensure quality service provision.
Dr. Tootie Bueser
Director for Nursing & Midwifery & NIHR Senior Clinical Research Practitioner, South East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance, GSTT & Kings College London
Session title: Embedding Genomics in Advanced Nursing Practice
Tootie is the Director for Nursing & Midwifery at Southeast Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA). She is responsible for supporting the embedding of genomics into Nursing and Midwifery practice across the region. She has recently taken up a Clinical Academic role based at King’s College London (KCL) as part of an NIHR Senior Clinical Practitioner Research award. Tootie completed her PhD at KCL as an NIHR/HEE Clinical Doctoral Fellow, and her research interests and clinical interests are focused on inherited cardiac conditions. Tootie is a member of the CNO England’s council on shared professional decision making for research and an alumnus of the NIHR70@70 Nurse Research Leadership Programme. She serves on the editorial board of the British Journal of Cardiac Nursing and a proud Trustee at Cardiomyopathy UK. Tootie is the Nurse Representative on the Council of the Association for Inherited Cardiac Conditions. She was past President for the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care and was the inaugural Chair of the Research Forum. Tootie is a founding member of the Filipino Senior Nurses Alliance.
The conference is open to all aspiring and current Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) working in academic, clinical and professional settings in the UK and overseas.
The programme will provide current evidence-based information to help develop and enhance the knowledge, skills and expertise of ANPs. The overall aim is to ensure patient safety and professional growth through the presentation of up to date and current relevant issues.

Once the invoice has been raised, you will then receive confirmation of your delegate booking on the event requested. Invoices are to be paid within 30 days of the invoice being issued.
