Wondering how to step confidently into leadership as a newly registered nurse? Unsure about handling your first shift as nurse in charge?
The RCN’s Newly Registered Nurses (NRN) Network are hosting a webinar to discuss the realities of being in charge with early career nurses. Attendees will also receive top tips from Ivo Carvalho da Silva, the RCN’s Leadership and Management forum steering committee member and Emily McWhirter, Associate Director at the RCN’s Leadership Academy.
Topics in this webinar will include:
- Lived experiences and top tips from early career nurses
- What might be unexpected on your first day in charge
- Why ward leadership is so important
- How the leadership academy can support new leaders
- Self-awareness and confidence
- Knowing your team
- Being visible as a leader
- Embracing “I Don’t Know!”
Guest speakers:
- Lucy Hayes is an early career nurse working in elderly acute care. She is co-lead of the RCN’s NRN Network. Lucy also sits on her local branch committee and is an RCN steward. She was previously chair of the student’s committee
- Gabby Nutley is an early career Registered Mental Health Nurse working in the Forensic Mental Health Service. Gabby is a co- lead of the RCN’s NRN Network. Gabby also spent time advocating for the wider voice as a student nurse
- Dr Emily McWhirter is the Associate Director for the new Leadership Academy at the RCN. She has been a Director of Nursing and undertook a PhD in Ward nursing, She has never forgotten her first shift in charge
- Ivo Carvalho da Silva is the Clinical Nurse Manager at HCA Healthcare UK, and RCN Nurses in Leadership and Management forum Steering Committee Member.
