Come to your local branch annual general meeting and help ratify your local reps and elect next year's branch executive committee, while enjoying sessions on personal resilience, keeping safe with the RCN Nursing Workforce Standards, and RCN member services such as the library and museum.
We are holding it locally so that it's convenient to attend, and we are combining it with a programme of presentations to enhance your learning and development.

Branch AGM and executive committee roles up for nomination
Please help your union at a local level and get involved in ensuring your reps are ratified for another year, and electing your branch executive committee - or going for a position on it.
The following roles are up for election in our branch: President, Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and two branch executive members, who could take the lead on anything you felt was important, such as students, EDI, events, nursing support workers, communications - anything you'd like the branch to focus on.
The term of office for all of these positions is 1 January 2025 until 31 December 2025.
Have a read of our 'Branch role descriptor' poster or the more formal governance document going into a bit more detail, as well as our branch election procedure and see if you are tempted to get involved. If you are, please submit a nomination before the AGM date. Email northern.region@rcn.org.uk by Monday 23 September 2024 identifying which seat you are interested in standing for and for which branch (we have four in the region).
Those who fill it in before the meeting take precedence over those who self-nominate on the day. RCN governance rules state that only if no one has put themselves forward before the AGM can anyone be invited to do so at the AGM itself.
While there is a time commitment involved and you do have to volunteer during your leisure time, being on our executive could lead you to some interesting places and people you might otherwise never have encountered. It could also give you some skills and experience that stand you in good stead both personally and professionally.
