Hear from nurse researchers about global health and nursing in the launch of this new book edited by Barbara Stilwell.
Nurses are critical in addressing the great health challenges we now face. Global Health and Nursing tackles some of the pressing issues facing nurses in the 21st century: climate change, globalization, decolonising nursing, nursing in emergencies and the effects of Covid 19 on the global workforce. This will be a chance to meet several of the authors, to hear how the RCN is moving forward on these issues and to meet colleagues working in global health.
Join us to launch the first book that provides an overview of global health issues specifically for and by nurses, from the social determinants of health, to planetary health, globalisation and migration. The book highlights the importance of investment in the nursing profession, the role of gender, and how nurses can find a global voice to become influential leaders as we rebuild health systems post-pandemic.
Introduced by Dr Barbara Stilwell, editor of the book and one of the UK’s most influential nurses, the event will include a reception and short talks from authors including Emily McWhirter, Marcus Wootton and Liz Madigan.
Global Health and Nursing: A new narrative for the 21st century is suitable for all those interested in global health, including postgraduate nurses, nurse educators, practising nurses and nurses taking global health programmes.
Doors open at 5.30pm for a reception, with short talks from 6pm.

Barbara Stilwell
Barbara is a nurse, health visitor and primary care Family Nurse Practitioner with a decades long interest in supporting health worker performance through a range of education and practice initiatives. She has worked for the World Health Organization and for non-profit organizations as a technical specialist and has been based in the middle east and sub-Saharan Africa. For the past four years Barbara has been living in the UK and from 2018-2021 headed the global advocacy campaign, Nursing Now. She is now working as a consultant and has been involved in global research and implementation projects on nurse leadership as well as editing a book on global health.
