Using the LDPAT: How to assess a person with a learning disability for pain

14 May 2025, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Room 1B, Exhibition Centre Liverpool, King's Dock, Port of Liverpool, Liverpool, L3 4FP
Submitted by the Pain and Palliative Care Forum in collaboration with the Learning Disability Forum
This session will launch the new Learning Disability Pain Assessment Toolkit (LDPAT), developed by the Pain and Palliative Care Forum and an expert group. The toolkit addresses a gap in nursing practice for assessing pain in individuals with learning disabilities. Using interactive teaching methods, the session will introduce the evidence-based digital resource, demonstrating its use through a PowerPoint summary and live demonstration. A Q&A session with a panel of experts will follow. The session is relevant for all delegates, as they may encounter patients with learning disabilities in pain. Developed through 2 literature reviews and expert input, the toolkit offers downloadable resources applicable in any clinical setting. Participants will improve their confidence and skills in assessing pain for people with learning disabilities and understand the valuable role of carers in this process.
