This workshop is funded by the Public Health Agency for registered nurses working in primary care in Northern Ireland
31 Mar 2025, 10:00 - 16:00
Choose event information:
This workshop will enhance the skills of nurses working in primary care using Dopplers, interpreting results and utilising appropriate bandaging techniques.
By the end of this workshop participants will:
- Be able to provide a simple explanation of the Doppler Effect and how it is used to determine arterial flow.
- Be able to explain the correct procedure in calculating an ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI).
- Be able to articulate issues that can lead to inaccurate readings.
- Understand the importance of interpreting results and onward referral.
- Have had the opportunity to practice a Doppler test to measure ABPI.
- Be able to select the appropriate bandaging techniques.
- Have the opportunity to practise bandaging under supervision.
During this workshop, participants will practice on one another. Please wear loose-fitting clothing, such as a t-shirt, to allow for brachial blood pressure measurements. Additionally, ensure your clothing permits easy access to your lower legs for ankle systolic pressure assessments. Note that your feet may also need to be exposed; if you prefer not to do so, please inform the facilitator at the start of the day.
Important: Participants must bring their own Doppler device, Doppler gel, and blood pressure cuffs for use during the workshop.
