20 Feb 2025, 13:30 - 15:45
Choose event information:
As a worker in the UK you possess certain employment rights and entitlements that you should be aware of. Drop into our first meeting of the year and brush up your knowledge on your legal rights as a worker. We will have a guest speaker from HMRC giving a presentation so join us and get informed about your rights.
As workers we are entitled to certain employment rights, including a national minimum wage, protection against unlawful deductions from wages, a statutory minimum level of paid holiday, a statutory minimum length of rest breaks, to work no more than 48 hours per week or to opt out of that right if we wish, protection against unlawful discrimination, protection for whistleblowers who report wrongdoing in the workplace, and not to be treated less favourably if we work part time.
We may also be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay, Statutory Adoption Pay, Shared Parental Pay, and agency workers have specific rights from the first day at work.
Come and find out exactly what those rights are while meeting your branch executive committee and other likeminded RCN members.
We're trying to bring our meetings closer to where you live and work this year. We are holding this first meeting at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and we plan to rotate them around all the major employers in the branch area throughout the year. It will also be hybrid, so if you can't make it in person, we hope it will still be convenient to join online.
