Hormone havoc: Exploring the impact of hormones on women’s mental health across the reproductive life course

13 May 2025, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Room 1B, Exhibition Centre Liverpool, King's Dock, Port of Liverpool, Liverpool, L3 4FP
Submitted by the RCN Women's Health Forum in collaboration with the Mental Health Forum and the Midwifery Forum

This event will explore the impact of hormonal fluctuations during menstruation, pre- and post-natal periods, and peri- and post-menopause on women’s mental health. Often under-recognised and under-treated, these changes can have a devastating effect on women’s well-being. The session will help de-stigmatise poor mental health and improve access to effective care. Supported by Cavell, a UK charity, the session will provide the latest evidence on mental health in the nursing workforce and highlight valuable resources for support. Aimed at all members of the nursing workforce, particularly the 90% of nurses who are women, the session will provide evidence-based guidelines, practical support, and information on assessment and signposting to relevant agencies. Key learning outcomes include understanding the mental health impact of hormonal fluctuations, assessment principles, and where to seek help for nursing staff facing mental health challenges.
