Press Release 18/10/2019

Dame Donna Kinnair elected to board of European Federation of Nurses Associations

The Royal College of Nursing is delighted to announce that Dame Donna Kinnair has been elected to the Executive Board of the European Federation of Nurses Associations.

The EFN represents over one million nurses from across Europe and plays a vital role in advocating on behalf of the nursing profession to the European institutions.

Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing Dame Donna Kinnair said:

“I am honoured to be successful in this election to the EFN Executive Committee so that I can continue to robustly represent the interests of the UK nursing community alongside our fellow national nursing associations at the European level.

“This is increasingly important in the context of Brexit. We haven’t forgotten that health does not respect borders and neither should the sharing of nursing expertise. Whatever the outcome of Brexit, the UK will always be part of Europe – you can’t move our location.

“I put the public interest at the heart of everything I do and am a tenacious and passionate advocate for nursing.

"I am looking forward to working collaboratively with people from all walks of life and this new position will help me to further the RCN’s impact internationally to achieve best outcomes for nursing and the patients we serve, globally.”

Donna was elected alongside Philomena Ní Sheaghdha (Irish Nursing and Midwives Organisation) as the second Executive Committee member.

The RCN would also like to extend congratulations to Elizabeth Adams (Irish Nursing and Midwives Organisation) was re-elected to her position as the President and Yves Mengal (National Federation of Belgian Nurses) who was also re-elected as the Treasurer.
