Brain Tumour Awareness Month
Are you aware brain tumours are statistically the largest cancer killer of those aged 40 and under. This year around 12,000 individuals will be diagnosed - this includes 500 children and young adults, that is 33 people a day, every day. Of these, 5000 will die. Brain tumours significantly reduce life expectancy and account for 27yrs of life lost.

Nurses supporting social care staff and residents’ wellbeing through gardening and gardens
The Elsie Wagg Innovation Scholarship funded by the Queen’s Nursing Institute and the National Garden Scheme gave us the opportunity to deliver a project that showed the positive effects of gardening on the health and well-being of social care staff and residents. Additionally, the project emphasised the role of nurses in health promotion and helping people to live and age well. Furthermore, it showed how we found a common ground in gardening, which created a meaningful connection between my nursing colleagues, social care staff, residents and I.

Listening event on the Hughes report publication
The Hughes report follows a review by Baroness Cumberlege (‘First do no harm’ 2020), commissioned by Mr Jeremy Hunt when he was Health Minister, that separately reviewed outcomes of three historical health interventions - pelvic mesh, sodium valproate & Primodos. One of the outcomes from the Cumberlege report was to appoint a Patient Safety Commissioner who would take forward the recommendations from the Cumberlege review.
