With a little help from my friends

Linda Bailey 21 Nov 2024

Our new Chair of Congress Linda Bailey encourages all members to consider getting more active in RCN Congress 2025 by applying to become a voting member – through the medium of Beatles songs.

What are the hottest topics affecting nursing and nurses in the UK right now? And are nurses leading on them or are we sitting back while others determine our future? I really hope not. Nurses voices should be Here, There and Everywhere. As the newly elected Chair of RCN Congress I am looking forward to Congress in Liverpool next year, so please Don’t Let Me Down.

However our debates only happen because you, the RCN members submit topics for discussion to the Agenda Committee, so it is up to all of you to make it relevant, new and exciting, don’t just Let It Be. You have until 8 January to get your items in and there is more information here.

You have to have the item backed by your branch, forum or board. Have a look at past agendas to see what we have discussed recently and how the items are worded. I can think of at least 10 hot topics on social media right now that I would love to see us discuss. The Agenda Committee then meets in mid January to choose the ones we think are the most interesting and relevant.

Even if you are not confident enough to submit and present a resolution, you can apply to attend as a voting (and funded!) member. But you have to get your application for that in by 2 December here. Getting to Liverpool isn’t a Long and Winding Road. It’s easier than you think by train!

If you are a voting member you must attend all the debates in the hall, but in the breaks you can attend Educational events and gain CPD points towards revalidation. Meanwhile in the evenings there are some organised events or you are free to enjoy the great night life the city has to offer (maybe even including a trip to the historic Cavern Club?)

Come Together and save the date – 12 to 15 May in lovely Liverpool (home of the Beatles).
