Time to highlight Scotland’s nursing stars

Julie Lamberth 15 Oct 2024

I’m delighted to see the nominations process for the 2025 Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards open today (15 October). Our Awards are fast becoming one of the most positive times in Scotland’s nursing calendar.

Looking back on the previous two awards seasons, I recall all of the passion, commitment and nursing excellence that was shared during the nominations processes and I’m sure this year will be no different.

Across Scotland, that there are shining stars that exemplify the very best of nursing and now is the time to turn the spotlight on them by nominating them for our 2025 awards.

Day in and day out, nursing staff do so much good work, often believing they are not doing anything out of the ordinary. Yet the passion they have for their patients and their profession is inspiring and deserving of being recognised. This opportunity to boost the morale of a colleague, a team, or even yourself, also reflects well on the wider team, ward, department. It also encourages those who are nominated to continue to make the positive changes which improve patient care.

Don’t take my word for it, our 2024 Scotland Nurse of the Year, Lynsey Russell, tells us:

“I was really humbled and honoured to be chosen as Scotland Nurse of the Year out of all the talented nurses in the final. I’ve used this honour to raise the nursing voice, drive innovation, and improve patient outcomes. Nursing is a profession and we should be proud to showcase that”

So don’t delay, find out more about what’s involved in making a nomination. Think about your colleagues and teams who are providing excellent care every day. Reflect on your own practice and the difference you are making each and every day. I’m looking forward to seeing the nominations flooding in.

Nominations can be made on our awards pages.
