Time to celebrate the best of nursing in Scotland

Julie Lamberth 8 Jan 2025

The nominations process for our 2025 Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards opened in October and we’ve just extended the deadline to ensure you have time to tell us about your nursing stars.

Lynsey Russell - RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year 2024

One of the highlights of my time as your Scotland Board Chair has been to launch and support these awards for the past 3 years.

Registered nurses, nursing support workers, and nursing teams across Scotland do such amazing work and deserve to be celebrated for the fantastic work they do. From hospitals to GP surgeries, community health centres to care homes, Scotland’s nursing staff work tirelessly to support the health and care of the people of Scotland.

I know this time of year is particularly challenging and it can be hard to see past the negatives, whether that be nursing vacancies or service pressures. But this is exactly why it is so important that we take this time to highlight, share and celebrate all that is wonderful about this profession that we all love.

The Awards are your opportunity to showcase the best of nursing that you, your colleagues, and teams do, and give them the recognition and attention they deserve for the innovation and nursing excellence they show day in and day out.

As a judge in the awards, it’s such a privilege to be able to read each and every nomination that is submitted. To hear about these amazing nurses and support workers fills my heart and reaffirms why I love nursing.

Whether you have the confidence to put yourself forward, or you know of a colleague who is making a difference where you work, even in a small way, I’d encourage you to submit a nomination in a relevant category.

Now is not the time to be modest or shy, this is your opportunity to shout from the rafters about the best of nursing in Scotland.

Good luck to everyone who is nominated, I can’t wait to read about all the wonderful nursing staff we have working here.
