Hear from Claire: Getting involved with our RCN Libraries Exhibitions and Events

Claire Sutton 13 Jan 2025

Claire Sutton, our Head of Independent Health and Social Care (IHSC), discusses our upcoming exhibition on the history of prison and justice nursing and how you can get involved.

Happy New Year!

As we step into 2025, I’d like to take a moment to wish you all health, happiness, and success in the year ahead. For the RCN IHSC Team, it promises to be another busy and exciting year, filled with opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate the incredible work of our members working across IHSC.

At the heart of everything we do is you, our members, and I’m always delighted to share some of the fantastic opportunities we have lined up to engage with you over the coming months. This month, I want to place a particular emphasis on how you can get involved with the exhibitions and events in the RCN Library and Museum. Our exhibitions and events celebrate the diverse experiences and expertise within nursing while creating spaces for reflection, learning, and collaboration.

One of the most exciting projects underway is our upcoming History of Prison and Justice Nursing public exhibition, which will launch in April 2025 and will shine a spotlight on the crucial role nursing plays within the justice system. Alongside this, there will be an accompanying event programme running from May-October 2025. To make these a success, we need your input. We're calling for members to submit creative, and interesting ideas to help shape the exhibition, and events and their themes. This is a great opportunity to share your expertise, personal experiences, or ideas that could inform meaningful discussions about nursing in prisons and the wider justice system.

The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2025, so don’t miss out! Whether you’re a nurse working within the justice system, someone with academic expertise, or simply interested in the subject, we want to hear from you. You can find more details and submit your ideas on our webpage.

As always, our broader calendar of exhibitions and events will offer a wide range of opportunities to engage with fellow members and explore key nursing topics. I encourage you to visit the RCN Library and Museum Exhibitions and Events page to stay updated.

The start of a new year is also a time to reflect and reconnect. If you have questions, ideas, or would like to reach out to the team, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email on ihsc@rcn.org.uk. We’re here to support you and ensure your voice is heard. Together, let’s make 2025 a year to remember for the RCN and its members.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our events and hearing your ideas for shaping the future of nursing.

Here’s to a remarkable year ahead!
