A lot is happening in the world of Nursing Support Workers (NSWs) in the RCN. I chaired the RCN Eastern all-member catch-up at the end of February which focused on NSWs. It was great to see so many NSW members at the catch-up and hear about the issues that matter to you. While this session included a focus on NSWs, you are welcome at any of the monthly regional catch-ups to ask any questions or to hear regional updates. Check out the events page for the latest events.
As many of you know I am the Eastern region representative on the RCN NSW Committee, but now I am also the NSW committee representative on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. Visit the website for more information on how the RCN champions equity and inclusion across the health and social care sector.
RCN Congress is happening in Newport, South Wales, from 2-6 June. I am hoping to see many NSWs at Congress and taking part in the events and debates during the week.
There is a new Health Care Support Workers handbook available. It’s easy to use and includes a range of content and resources relevant to anyone in, or interested in, a health care support worker role. You can access the handbook here.
Are you a band 2, but think you should be a band 3? Learn more about fair pay for health care support workers here. All around the country job re-evaluations are happening. In some places they already have. Ask your manager if it’s happening in your workplace or to find out about starting the process of reviewing your role. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the RCN for help and advice.
Finally, please talk to your colleagues and encourage them to join the RCN to ensure their voice is heard. Together we are stronger.
