International nurses: how to recognise experience and thrive

03 Jun 2024, 17:30 - 18:15

  • 2C, ICC Wales, Coldra Woods, Newport, NP18 1HQ
Hosted by: RCN Essex Branch

Collaboration: RCN Eastern Region

Following last year’s successful Congress debate to recognise the experience of international nurses, what has changed?

This session will discuss national frameworks, campaigns and changes, including the local campaign work implemented in The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, where international nurse salaries were reviewed and amended based on prior experience, and the success story of recruiting and supporting an international nurse directly into a specialist band 7 role. There is currently no national ‘How to recruit internationally educated nurses’ (IENs) guide and this session will explore best practices, including wellbeing strategies for IENs and the ambition to set the scene for a much-needed national process.

The session will cover:

  • international recruitment strategies
  • workforce planning
  • leadership
  • wellbeing
  • supporting a more diverse workforce.

This session is for all internationally education nurses, employers, delegates, including senior staff responsible for recruitment.
