Health literacy looks at how health care professionals communicate with the public. If people have appropriate understanding, knowledge, skills and confidence to use health information and services, they can make appropriate health decisions and follow instructions for treatment.

Aims of this session include practical tips to:

  • improve the practice of health care professionals in how we communicate with patients to improve their ability to manage their own health and wellbeing, thereby reducing admissions and length of hospital stays
  • improve patient care and improve equality and patient activation by providing patients with information they can understand and apply to their health and lives.

The event is aimed at all patient-facing roles across the UK, including nurses, health care support workers, advanced health practitioners, as well as students and those working in the independent health care sector.
