Reason you chose this book

I read this book as a teenager at a time when we all wanted to "save the world" however, up until that point my future career plans were leaning towards architecture. This book put a thought in my mind of maybe doing something more "worthy".

Review

There is a lot in this book which now seems inappropriate, but it remains an interesting account of an individual making a significant difference with compassion and dedication. The idea of missionary is now very different than in Albert Schweitzer's days and it needs to be seen in its historical context.
