Process to requisition a General Meeting

Any active member of the RCN can submit a petition to requisition a General Meeting by completing the online petition form or by requesting a paper form via the office of the Chief Executive & General Secretary. If a hard copy of the form is requested, then please allow 7 working days for the form to arrive.

 

Once you have submitted a petition to requisition a General Meeting, the Council (after considering the advice of the Chief Executive & General Secretary), will determine if the petition meets the requirements set out in Standing Order 13.5, and will confirm the decision to you within 30 working days of receipt of the petition form. 

 

If it is determined that the petition meets the requirements set out in Standing Order 13.5 the petition will be published on the EGM Petitions page on the RCN’s website, and the member who submitted the petition will be informed.

 

The petition will be open for a period 31 working days and as outlined in Standing Order 13.3, at least 5% of the RCN’s active membership needs to sign the petition for the Council to either convene a General Meeting to consider the business specified in the requisition, or include the specified business on the agenda of a General Meeting or Annual General Meeting due to be held, provided that such meeting shall take place within three months of receipt of such requisition.

 

The number of signatories required under Standing Order 13.3 will be calculated at the date of publication of the petition.

 

If the petition does not received the required number of signatories under Standing Order 13.3 within 31 working day period, the petition will be closed.

 

If the petition secures the required number of signatories by the end of that period, the provisions in Standing Orders 13 to 18 will be applied in respect of the calling and conduct of a General Meeting to consider the business specified in the petition.

 

The creator of the petition to requisition a General Meeting with have their name displayed alongside the petition details on the RCN website.

 

Signatories will remain anomalous, and the number of signatories received will be displayed on the petition details page on the RCN website. 

 

Only active members of the RCN will be able to submit a petition to requisition a General Meeting and only active members of the RCN will be able to sign open petitions.
