Introduction

Following recent work undertaken by Council to transform our resolution management the Member Resolution Policy has been developed to replace the existing Member Disciplinary Policy.

Together with a Code of Conduct and new Regulation the three documents aim to promote positive behaviours amongst members, while offering a robust framework to manage more formal conduct issues where required.

The key principles for these proposed documents are:

  • Accountability– with the introduction of clear lines of ownership and decision making throughout the process.
  • Fairness – ensuring there is a clear and transparent process in place, which will be applied consistently to any member regardless of their role within the organisation
  • Respect – introduction of lines of responsibility for ensuring a member is kept fully informed throughout of their rights and entitlements.
  • Independence – the introduction of independent panels to sit at hearing and appeal stage, composing of RCN members and chaired by a member of RCN Council.

Any decision to apply the resolution process is not one taken lightly so it is critical that we get this right, and that the process is handled with the care and independence needed to ensure a fair process, we’d value your thoughts on the proposed documents.

Questions

  1. Do you feel the policy meets its aims?
  2. Does this policy reflect the principles of the RCN members Code of Conduct?
  3. Do you feel the policy will assist the RCN in maintaining and protecting its high standards and professional reputation?
  4. How do you feel we should manage the selection of independent panel members and how could we encourage member interest in the role of a panel member?
