Supported to thrive
Our campaign for a healthy, developed and thriving nursing workforce
We can’t allow ourselves to be compromised by a system that undervalues and underfunds nursing.
Nursing professionals are the backbone of our health and care system. We're responsible for the majority of patient care. We assess what patients need, day in, day out. We see what society needs.
For our health and social care system to be what it should be, it’s vital that those in power create the supportive, healthy and inclusive conditions we need to progress in our careers and thrive in our workplaces.
And yet, too many of us begin and end our career at the same level. Too many of us are burnt out. Too many of us feel unsupported and excluded. Join us to demand better.

What we're fighting for
Every nursing professional deserves to thrive, not merely survive. We believe we can achieve this if we get some fundamental things right.
An aspirational career path
Many of us begin and end our careers at the same level, despite amassing invaluable knowledge and experience throughout our working lives.
That's why we're demanding new and accurate nursing role profiles, clearer career progression and equivalence across independent health and social care.

A healthy, inclusive team

Placing equity at the heart of nursing
Diversity is one of the greatest strengths of our profession. We're committed to helping to make equity and inclusion an everyday reality for nursing staff, so that every one of our members can progress and thrive.

Fighting for nursing staff with long COVID
Many of us are still suffering the effects of the pandemic. We're calling on governments to recognise long COVID as a work-related illness to unlock better emotional and financial support for anyone who needs it.

Improving sick pay and maternity protections
The Westminster government’s Employment Bill needs to go further to protect nursing staff. We’re particularly fighting for two key amendments to safeguard more nursing staff from unfair conditions.
'Stop exploiting care workers'
We're calling for urgent action and a thorough investigation to end this exploitation.

Celebrating nursing in all its forms
Our nursing community is powerful and together, we uplift each other. Get involved in moments of unity and days of action to feel part of something bigger, bolder and stronger.

Pride in nursing
In June, we celebrate the contribution of LGBTQIA+ nursing staff throughout the ages, and raise awareness of the equality fight yet to be won.

Nurses' day
Each spring, we unite with members across the country to recognise and thank nursing staff for the incredible dedication, compassion and skill they show day in, day out. Let's remind everyone of the difference you make.

Nursing support workers' day
In November, we centre nursing support workers' vital role in patient care. Whether you're a nursing support worker yourself or count them among your colleagues, let's celebrate nursing support workers everywhere.
Honouring nursing excellence
Here at the RCN, we honour outstanding members with a series of awards designed to celebrate exceptional contributions to our profession.

RCN Awards
These awards are your chance to nominate outstanding individuals who embody the excellence and commitment that drive the nursing profession forward.

RCN Reps Awards
Reps make a real difference in their workplaces and beyond, improving conditions for their colleagues and patients. That's why every year, we celebrate them with our Reps Awards.

RCN Fellowship
RCN Fellowship is the highest honour we can give to our members. Fellows are inspirational leaders who've made an exceptional contribution to nursing and improving care.
