Unsustainable pressures

Resources to support RCN members dealing with unsustainable service pressures

The health and care system is in a workforce crisis, but staff still need to ensure that services are delivered in a safe and timely manner.

This resource is designed to support RCN members to deliver safe and effective care, to raise concerns where patient or staff safety, or patient dignity, is compromised,  and to support members' health and wellbeing while working under these pressures.

Corridor care

Treating people in inappropriate spaces is unsafe, undignified and unacceptable. Corridor care must not be normalised. If it is happening at your workplace, we’ll support you to raise concerns.

How do I raise concerns?

We have developed some toolkits and template letters to help you to raise concerns with  your employer. We know that this can feel quite scary to do, but you can be reassured you are doing the right thing in raising your concerns, and the RCN will support you to take things further if needed.

Nursing Workforce Standards

Nursing is the largest safety critical profession in healthcare and it is vital that the right staff, with the right skills are in the right place, at the right time.

The RCN's Nursing Workforce Standards are the first national blueprint for tackling the nursing staff shortage levels across the UK.

They set the standard for excellent patient care and nursing support in all settings, and all UK countries.

See also our case studies that demonstrate how these standards have been used in various workplace settings.
