COVID-19 home working risk assessment letter

We have developed the below letter to send to your employer regarding a home working risk assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We know that this can feel quite scary to do, but you can be reassured you are doing the right thing in raising your concerns and the RCN will support you to take things further if needed.

Dear [Insert manager's name],

Home working risk assessment

As my [individual/pregnancy] risk assessment or Government advice indicates that I should be working from home, I am formally requesting that a home working risk assessment is carried out, including a workstation assessment.

As my employer, under the Display Screen Equipment Regulations and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (or if in Northern Ireland, the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992), you are legally required to carry out an assessment of the risks from home working and implement a workstation assessment.

The following guidance will assist in the process:
HSE, Protecting home workers - http://www.hse.gov.uk/toolbox/workers/home.htm

If a risk assessment is not carried out within one week then I will be escalating this matter to the Royal College of Nursing.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,
