The RCN has worked in close collaboration with its equivalent nursing organisation in Canada to highlight Ontario’s deficit crisis in the 1990s, its subsequent health reforms and the impact of these reforms on the nursing workforce and wider health care system. Ontario’s experience with implementing reforms during an economic downturn offers some valuable lessons for England.
