POLICY: National Good Food Nation Plan
The Scottish Parliament passed the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act in 2022. The Act requires the Scottish Government to publish a National Plan for achieving and measuring progress towards a series of outcomes.
RCN Scotland supports the intention behind the legislation and the first National Plan. Evidence shows that investing in prevention and early intervention, of which improving nutrition of the population is an important part, will reduce demand on the NHS and public services, improve health and wellbeing and support economic growth. As part of this approach, RCN Scotland is calling for specific targets to be introduced to measure access to healthy food for those who use health and social care services, as well as staff working there.
