BRIEFING: Westminster Hall Debate on E-Petition 200032 Relating to Public Sector Pay

MPs will be given time to debate Unison’s petition signed by more than 140,000 people as part of their Pay Up Now campaign. Ahead of the debate, sponsored by Helen Jones MP, we have briefed MPs to ask them to keep nursing pay and the interrelated issues of low morale, safe staffing and patient safety, high on the political agenda.

While we welcome the extra funding for a nursing pay award, separate to the existing NHS financial envelope as announced by the Chancellor in his Autumn Budget, we await the final settlement. We remain clear that any future pay award should apply to nursing staff working at all bands, must not be linked to productivity increases and unsocial hours payments must be protected.
