Nursing Support Workers' Day

Celebrate with us

Every year on 23 November, we celebrate the vital contribution nursing support workers make to patients in health and social care.

As this falls on a Saturday this year, our activities will run from Friday 22 – Monday 25 November.

Nursing support workers are the bedrock of our wards, clinics and community teams. The term ’nursing support worker’ encompasses hundreds of different job titles and roles, including health care support workers, assistant practitioners, nursing associates and health care assistants.

They work independently, alongside registered nurses and as part of wider multidisciplinary teams in all health and social care settings.

Nursing support workers have a critical role to play in delivering high quality care and excellent outcomes for patients, however their vital contribution can often go unnoticed. Nursing Support Workers' Day is about shining a light on their roles and their skills and to say thank you for the essential care they give every single day.

Nursing Support Workers’ Day 2024

This year, the theme for Nursing Support Workers’ Day will be the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion.

We will shine a light on the diversity of nursing support workers as individuals– whether that is age, religion, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity or disability.

We will highlight the importance of inclusivity of nursing support workers within the nursing profession – whether that be through the breath of roles or settings they work in, or the importance of inclusive language to describe their contribution to nursing and patient care.
